The Rural Microfinance Support Project aims to expand microfinance services to poor areas of Iran, especially targeting rural women and young adults. The current policy environment in Iran has not been able to support the Rural Microfinance Support Project and has been hampered a lack of experience in sustainable microfinance in both the governmental and nongovernmental sectors.

Microfinance in Malaysia: Time to Rebuild

The paper is a short summary of the recent developments in Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia, the major microfinance institution in Malaysia. Citing the organization’s handling of Islamic Law, the paper lays out certain contemporary problems AIM faces. The paper posits that these problems may shed a cynical light on the Grameen model as a whole, and how it could be adapted in the future in an Islamic context.
