Abstract

The paper is a short summary of the recent developments in Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia, the major microfinance institution in Malaysia. Citing the organization’s handling of Islamic Law, the paper lays out certain contemporary problems AIM faces. The paper posits that these problems may shed a cynical light on the Grameen model as a whole, and how it could be adapted in the future in an Islamic context.
