Dr. Shariq Nisar delivered a public lecture on ‘Stock Markets and Shariah Screening Methodologies’ at The Center for Islamic Economics and Finance, Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies, Hamad bin Khalifa University on Sunday, 29th of March, 2015. Dr. Shariq Nisar, who has pioneered Shariah Screening in India has been associated with many landmark Shariah compliant transactions in the country. He is currently the director of India’s premier Shariah Advisory firm, TASIS.

Dr. Rifki Ismail discussed in his talk the latest developments and unique features of Islamic finance in Indonesia, at the Center for Islamic Economics and Finance at QFIS. His lecture was divided into five main sections. The first part focused upon the unique values and characteristics of Indonesian Islamic finance, which was later followed by a discussion regarding the linkages among the institutions themselves. In a public lecture at the Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies, Dr. Masooda Bano, a professor at Oxford University, gave a lecture titled: “Aid Effectiveness and Development: Studies and Experiences", which is based on her book Breakdown in Pakistan. Dr. Bano discussed her research findings on foreign aid and developments and demonstrated how aid is actually crowding out altruistic behavior. During the lecture, she presented possible suggestions to improve aid as well as make it more effective.

The Life of Sultan al-Mu’ayyad Shaykh, His Mosque and Unique Inscriptions

This lecture will discuss the exciting life and career of the Mamluk Sultan al-Mu’ayyad Shaykh, who ruled over Egypt and Bilad al-Sham, in the early 15th century. He had an active role during the reigns of his predecessors before eventually taking over the throne.  

Sultan al-Mu’ayyad Shaykh built a magnificent religious and funerary complex behind Bab Zuwayla, the south gate of Cairo. The lecture will discuss its architecture, decoration, and the unique inscriptions of its qibla wall.
