Ibn Khaldun's Circle of Justice & Development : Applications for Current Islamic Finance Practice

This lecture presents the notions of law, justice, and development discussed in contemporary literature in light of Ibn Khaldun’s circle of justice and development. 

Ibn Khaldun argued that the nature of laws enacted by the state governs the status of justice, which in turn determines development. Using the propositions derived from Ibn Khaldun’s circle of justice and development, the lecture will examine the current practice of Islamic finance. 

Crescent from the Perspective of Astronomy, Sharia and Modern Science

Modern science and technology have influenced society's practice of crescent sighting. It has resulted in a change in perception of such a sensitive subject  from the standpoint of Sunnah and Shari’a, in the process of the crescent sighting. 

It is necessary to understand the reason behind such changes in perception and a unilateral outlook that has caused such a debate.
