Following the previous three successful editions of the International Conference on Islamic Finance (ICIF), the Center for Islamic Economics and Finance (CIEF) in the College of Islamic Studies (CIS) at HBKU, with the support of the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) authority, is organizing the fourth ICIF, scheduled to be held on April 6 – 8, 2021 in Doha, Qatar. 

3rd CEOs and Islamic Finance Leaders Roundtable: Islamic Finance, Fintech, and Cryptocurrencies

The goal of this roundtable series was to create a forum for understanding and enhancing the field of Islamic economics and finance by fostering an open dialogue among industry leaders and academia, while providing an opportunity for students to get more involved in the Islamic finance industry. The roundtable acts as a catalyst for a dedicated communication channel between Islamic financial institutions and academics, to discuss perennial and new issues and products in the industry.

2nd CEOs & Islamic Finance Leaders Roundtable: Financing Infrastructure Projects

The College of Islamic Studies (CIS), Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), hosted a CEOs Roundtable event on the subject of “Financing Infrastructure Projects: What Role for Islamic Finance” on Tuesday, 22 November 2016. The event was organized by the Center for Islamic Economics and Finance—a research center at CIS. Over 40 participants including academics, bank CEOs and their representatives, policymakers, and students of HBKU participated in the roundtable.

Long and sustained periods of war, conflicts and neglect in several OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) countries have rendered their economies and institutions dysfunctional. As a direct outcome, today OIC countries account for 61.5% of all displaced population in the world with more than 25 million displaced people. Therefore, there is a need for a paradigm shift in assumptions, approaches and narratives when addressing such challenges in OIC member states.

Religious Tolerance: A Catalyst for Peaceful Coexistence

Co-sponsored by the College of Islamic Studies (CIS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), and the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue (DICID), this specialized roundtable discussion explores the theme of religious tolerance. The focus will be on the Middle East but will highlight Qatar’s unique role in promoting religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
