The writer holds that economic development is concerned with the well-being of individuals in the temporal world and the well-being of individuals in the life after death. Muslims, it is believed, are to act in a way that keeps both of these well-being situations in mind. The author enters a discussion of production priorities. Economic expansion and the achievement of greater equity may be attained simultaneously--the method for this is discussed by the writer.

Islamic marketing strategy: eradicaring rural poverty in Malaysia

The work investigates the fundamental elements that lead to the on-going unhealthy economic state of fishing villages in Malaysia. Although the multiple official efforts have been strong in their drive to free these villages of their economic difficulty, the efforts have not proven successful. The author puts forth a scheme grounded in the Islamic concept of Musharakah. The Musharakah approach acts as a substitute for the debt financing practices now the norm. These old means of finance draw on collateral and on security.

Leading issues in Islamic banking and finance

The author devotes attention in this work to questions relevant for decision making in running financial institutions that operate under Islamic law. Discussion is engaged in regarding Musharakah ventures. The possible future place in the world system for Islamic financial bodies dealing in investments, in offering counsulting services, and in offering an Islamic forum for stock trading is looked at. Ideas are drawn from real-life experiences that took place within the Malaysian economy. The Malaysian insight is particularly relevant to issues related to the lives of the rural poor.
