Abstract

The volume, as explained in its foreword, is a compilation of select papers presented at the 1976 First International Conference on Islamic Economics held at Makka. Dr. Abdullah Nasif pens the foreword. The preface, by Muhammad Omar Zubair, relays enthusiasm for the budding field of Islamic economics. The editor's introduction discusses the general Islamic resurgence as well as the problems within the classical economic outlook. Some of the ideology of Islam particularly relevant to economic life is touched on as well. The 1976 conference and the establishment of the International Centre for Research in Islamic Economics at King Abdulaziz University are discussed. The compiled papers are divided into two groups--'contributions to Islamic economics' and 'surveys on Islamic economics.' Works in the first group investigate theoretical matters of a broad range.
