Monetary and fiscal economics of Islam: an outline of some major subjects for research

The booklet was worked on by a group of thinkers at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah following the production of a manuscript by Umer Chapra. The work is divided into four parts: one on conceptual issues, another on policy matters, a third on international matters, and a last on theoretical frameworks of the field. The conceptual issues raised deal with macroeconomic matters like savings and investment as well as the Islamic legal issue of Riba. Regarding policy, monetary matters and bank regulation are two of several topics. The international matters include discussion of debt financing and of foreign exchange. One theoretical framework is presented, followed by a discussion of alternative arrangements that could be made.
