Dr. Muhammad Tarek N. Swelim

Dr. Swelim is currently Associate Professor of Urban Design and Architecture at College of Islamic Studies – HBKU. He holds a PhD (1994) in Islamic Art and Architecture from Harvard University and a Masters (1986) from American University, Egypt. He received his BA (1979) from Helwan University, Egypt. He has previously held positions as a Visiting Professor of Islamic Art and Architecture at Ain Shams University and the American University in Cairo.

Dr. Joseph Lumbard is Associate Professor of Quranic Studies at CIS. He has previously taught at the American University of Sharjah, Brandeis University, and the American University in Cairo. He also served as Advisor for Interfaith Affairs to the Jordanian Royal Court.

Dr. Mutaz Al-Khatib

Dr. Mutaz is currently an Associate Professor of Methodology and Ethics at the Research Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics, and Applied Islamic Ethics at the College of Islamic Studies at Hamad Bin Khalifa University. He holds a BA in Islamic Studies from Damascus (1997) and in Arabic Literature from Al-Azhar University and an MA (2002) and Ph.D.

Dr. Dalal Aassouli

Dr. Dalal Aassouli is an Assistant Professor of Islamic Finance at CIS. She was previously a visiting academic at the Durham Centre for Islamic Economics and Finance, Durham University Business School and a visiting lecturer in a number of international universities. She has also worked at the International Islamic Liquidity Management Corporation (IILMC) in Malaysia, where she assisted with the establishment of the IILM's sukuk program.

Dr. Mustafa Disli

Dr. Mustafa Disli is an Associate Professor of Economics and Finance at CIS. Dr. Mohamed Eskandar Shah Mohd Rasid

Dr. Mohamed Eskandar is the Academic Dean and an Associate Professor in the Master of Science in Islamic Finance Program. He was Associate Dean of School of Graduate and Professional Studies at the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF). He holds a PhD in Finance from the University of Nottingham, a Master in International Economics and Finance from the University of Queensland, and a Bachelor in Business Administration (Finance) from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).

Dr. Alexandre V. Caeiro

Dr Alexandre Caeiro is Associate Professor at CIS – HBKU since 2012. He has been in research at various Universities at Germany, France and the Netherlands. He received his Ph.D. in Religious Studies (2011) from Utrecht University, MA (2002) from School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences, Paris, and BA (2001) from Trinity College, Dublin. His research broadly deals with the transformations of Islamic law in modern contexts.

Frank is an Associate Professor at College of Islamic Studies, HBKU. Before joining CIS, he was Assistant Professor of Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Bern (2010-2015) where he received his Habilitation in Islamic Studies. He received his Ph.D. from University of France in 2002. He has studied modern history, Islamic studies and Arabic in Hamburg, University of France and Damascus. His Research interest lies in History of the Modern Middle East, Secularism, Political Religion and Islamophobia.

Dr. Samer Rashwani

Samer Rashwani is a scholar of Quranic Studies and Islamic intellectual history. His teaching and research concentrate on the trajectories of Islamic scholarship on the Quran from the early centuries of onwards; and investigate new hermeneutical approaches to the Quran. He was a lecturer at the faculty of Sharia (Universities of Damascus and Aleppo; 2007–2011), a EUME (Forum Transregionale Studien) fellow in Berlin in 2011–2013, and a post-doc at the Center of Islamic theology, University of Tübingen, since 2013.
