Frank is an Associate Professor at College of Islamic Studies, HBKU. Before joining CIS, he was Assistant Professor of Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Bern (2010-2015) where he received his Habilitation in Islamic Studies. He received his Ph.D. from University of France in 2002. He has studied modern history, Islamic studies and Arabic in Hamburg, University of France and Damascus. His Research interest lies in History of the Modern Middle East, Secularism, Political Religion and Islamophobia. He has authored and co-edited a number of volumes including Islamic Movements of Europe: Public Religion and Islamophobia in the Modern World (2014) and Islam and the Politics of Culture in Europe: Memory, Aesthetics, Art.
