The author attempts to resolve the controversy of the content and meaning of Islamic economics. The primary objective is to define ''Islamic economic system'' as it is explained in Islamic economic thought. The second goal of the writer is to examine the extent to which early Islamic economic thought and its ideological concepts compare to the medieval economic thought of the West. A Schupeterian approach is used to identify the term ''Islamic economy.'' The author believes that this is a neglected area of economic thought.

This study compares the financial performance of the Kuwait Finance House (KFH) with interest bearing investment and banking sectors in Kuwait, explores the banking needs and attitudes of the KFH's and other established banks' customers, and evaluates the accuracy of KFH officials' predictions about their customers' needs and wants. The interest-free KFH showed substantially better financial performance than interest bearing investment sector means.
