The lecturer,  Necdet Sensoy, aimed to cover his Turkish Monetary Policy experience, as long as the multiple tools in the monetary policy experience of Turkish Central Bank. Moreover, Sensoy covered some Islamic finance experience in Turkey and how the Global Financial Crisis changed the perception and views about the function of Central Banks.

The goal of this roundtable series was to create a forum for understanding and enhancing the field of Islamic economics and finance by fostering an open dialogue among industry leaders and academia, while providing an opportunity for students to get more involved in the Islamic finance industry. The roundtable acts as a catalyst for a dedicated communication channel between Islamic financial institutions and academics, to discuss perennial and new issues and products in the industry.

The College of Islamic Studies (CIS), Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), hosted a CEOs Roundtable event on the subject of “Financing Infrastructure Projects: What Role for Islamic Finance” on Tuesday, 22 November 2016. The event was organized by the Center for Islamic Economics and Finance—a research center at CIS. Over 40 participants including academics, bank CEOs and their representatives, policymakers, and students of HBKU participated in the roundtable.

Long and sustained periods of war, conflicts and neglect in several OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) countries have rendered their economies and institutions dysfunctional. As a direct outcome, today OIC countries account for 61.5% of all displaced population in the world with more than 25 million displaced people. Therefore, there is a need for a paradigm shift in assumptions, approaches and narratives when addressing such challenges in OIC member states.

Dr. Shariq Nisar delivered a public lecture on ‘Stock Markets and Shariah Screening Methodologies’ at The Center for Islamic Economics and Finance, Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies, Hamad bin Khalifa University on Sunday, 29th of March, 2015. Dr. Shariq Nisar, who has pioneered Shariah Screening in India has been associated with many landmark Shariah compliant transactions in the country. He is currently the director of India’s premier Shariah Advisory firm, TASIS.

Indonesian Islamic Banking and Finance: Performances and Challenges Ahead

Dr. Rifki Ismail discussed in his talk the latest developments and unique features of Islamic finance in Indonesia, at the Center for Islamic Economics and Finance at QFIS. His lecture was divided into five main sections. The first part focused upon the unique values and characteristics of Indonesian Islamic finance, which was later followed by a discussion regarding the linkages among the institutions themselves. He later examined the performance of Islamic finance and its supporting factors, as well as reviewing the legal support available for Islamic finance in Indonesia. Dr.

Aid Effectiveness and Development: Studies and Experiences

In a public lecture at the Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies, Dr. Masooda Bano, a professor at Oxford University, gave a lecture titled: “Aid Effectiveness and Development: Studies and Experiences", which is based on her book Breakdown in Pakistan. Dr. Bano discussed her research findings on foreign aid and developments and demonstrated how aid is actually crowding out altruistic behavior. During the lecture, she presented possible suggestions to improve aid as well as make it more effective.
