Abstract

This book contains ten essays which examine the effects on weaker segments of the population of structural adjustment. The authors of the articles include experts in sociology, women's studies, political science, economics, and regional planning. The essays examine the effects of economic crises on women in Nicaragua, gender and Islam in Bangladesh, women's paid and unpaid works, women in Tanzania, and women in the Caribbean, as well as debt problems in Mexico, hunger and gender relations in South Asia, politics in the economic crisis in Bolivia, the needs of women in structural adjustment, and poverty and gender relations.
