Abstract

This book is a collection of essays by various writers that is meant to serve as an introduction to the world of Islamic finance. It is divided into five sections detailing different aspects of the field. The first is titled 'The Financial Environment' and contains two essays on the objectives of Islamic finance. This is followed by a section on Riba and interest, and its treatment both in the Quran and in the field of Islamic finance. The third section consists of five essays on investment techniques and resource allocation, and includes an analysis of capital expenditure within Islamic finance, and an assessment of corporate securities in light of the needs of Islamic investments. Section 4 describes forms of business organization and finance modes. Three of the essays in this section are about general principles and applications, but the remaining one deals with one particular Islamic bank (Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad) and its principles of operation.
