Abstract

The authors divide their work into two sections--one on the principles of Islamic banking and the other on the history and the activities of Faisal Islamic Bank, a firm located in Sudan. The first section, in which the theory of Islamic banking and an analytical system are laid out, contains a part on Islamic banking's history, a part on the concepts of interest, profit, and surplus, and a part on the modern banking scene in Sudan. The second section, devoted to discussion of the Faisal Islamic Bank, contains a part on the development of the organization, a part on the practices of the organization, and a part on the impact of the organization on the economic and the political landscapes. A very brief conclusion is added in which thoughts on the Faisal Islamic Bank's historical success and on the firm's future are presented.
