Abstract

Islamic banking and finance in Sudan exemplifies how the Islamic financial system can help small businesses and many poor people. Micro-finance recipients, those with small manufacturing workshops or single trading establishments, are important beneficiaries of Islamic finance. Islamic finance is especially able to meet the needs of these micro-enterprises because of its concept of risk sharing. Also, the relationship between the Bank of Sudan and the small enterprise sector exemplifies how Islamic banking assists the poor. The book then draws lessons from the Islamic financing of small and micro-enterprises.
