Abstract
This book analyzes the nature and role of Islamic banks. The analysis is based upon an examination of religion, theory and case studies of the practical operations of Islamic banks. The book provides an introduction to Islamic banking. Islamic law, which is the basis of Islamic banking, is overviewed. The topic of Islamic banking and financial intermediation is discussed. Islamic financial systems and Islamic banking in mixed systems are analyzed. In addition, corporate governance in Islamic banking and the Islamic and Christian attitudes towards usury are discussed. Lastly, the book also looks at directions in Islamic finance.
