This paper aims to illustrate the current landscape of awqaf properties development and management in Morocco. With a deep awqaf heritage spanning 12 centuries, awqaf are entrenched in the social, religious and economic life of the kingdom. The paper starts with a general overview of the historical, political and economic factors that have influenced awqaf development and management practices in Morocco. It then discusses the key stakeholders and laws, particularly the recent awqaf code implemented by the country to enhance the management of awqaf institutions and properties, followed by selected case studies to illustrate awqaf historical evolution. Finally, the paper concludes with a general assessment and future direction of awqaf development and management in Morocco.
