Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 is undoubtedly one of the biggest challenges of the 21st century facing both developed and developing countries alike. Since the adoption of the SDGs in 2015, it has been a 5-year journey of trial and error experimentations all over the world to come up with innovative solutions beyond business-as-usual and get the job done. Private equity (PE) in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region is a new asset class that has been informally structured and formalized towards the beginning of the last decade (early 2000). New private equity firms were established with more generic private equity funds established in 2002 and 2003. No publicly available private equity performance data are available that can shed light on how the GCC region compares to other regions in the world.
