يرصد البحث تصوّر أحمد صدقي الدجاني (1936-2003) للهويّة العربيّة في فلسطين، وتعريفها اللغوي باعتبار تصوّره واحدًا مِن تصوّرات الهويّات المحوريّة خلال القرن العشرين. فمِن خلال إجراء مسح لِحزمةٍ مِن المُصطلحات التي تناولها الدجاني في كتاباته، نستكشف ملامح بنية هذا التصوّر الهويّاتي وعلاقة لَبِناتهِ ببعضها وصيغة التعبير اللغوي عنه.

يُمثّل كتاب "مصارع العُشّاق" حلقةً في سلسلةِ حلقاتِ الكتاباتِ عن الحُبِّ في الحضارةِ العربية الإسلامية. فقد جاء تأليفُ جعفر السراج لكتابه هذا بعد أن عرفت المكتبة العربية حوالي أربعة عشر كتاباً ورسالة في الموضوع قبله. كما جرى تأليف عدد مِن الكتب في الموضوع بعده تأثّر أغلبها به تأثراً كبيراً. ذلك أن هذه الحلقة تميزت بقوة إشعاعها. يبقى لكتاب مصارع العشاق، في موضوعه، بين جميع كتب الحب والأحباب التي ظهرت قبله وبعده، مذاق خاص يستطيبه قارئ الكتاب في أي عصر كان. ومرد ذلك إلى ما كشفت عنه هذه الأضواء مما تميز به هذا الكتاب هدفاً وأسلوباً.
