Education for Sustainable Development in Qatar

This exciting workshop brings together actors undertaking active roles as part of the education and policy community in the education for sustainable development ecosystem in Qatar. The workshop aims to create a venue to learn about stakeholders’ experiences in sustainable development goals education (strategies, tools, enablers and barriers), as well as to collectively work on identifying the overarching questions in this domain and the areas open for progress and collaboration.

The World Bank recently released “The Global Findex Database 2021: Financial Inclusion, Digital Payments, and Resilience in the Age of Covid-19” which shows that 76 percent of adults globally have access to an account with a bank or a regulated financial institution. The rise in the past decade has been the fastest ever with over a 50 percent jump in the population with access to banking accounts and this was largely possible due to rapid advances in technology and digital infrastructure for financial services.

This online seminar is part of the 'Fintech Seminar Series' held by College of Islamic Studies, HBKU. The seminar speaker will discuss on "No Trust, No Use: How Young Retail Investors Build Initial Trust in Financial Robo-Advisors". The guest speaker, Mustafa Nourallah, will share his research on the factors that impact initial trust and behavioral intentions by youth to use financial robo-advisors (FRAs); and the implications of his work in the industry.

The Technological Impact in Finance: A Bibliometric Study of Fintech Research

This paper is a review of research work done in FinTech that included technological innovation in finance in area such as the credit market (including Peer-2-Peer lending), insurance with a blockchain-assisted smart contract and payment systems (including cryptocurrencies). The paper provides a bibliometric review of FinTech in finance based on the published articles and journals in the Scopus database relating to 1,717 publications available between 1960 and 2021 onward.

Khaleeji Mode of Development Cooperation

The emergence of alternative forms of development cooperation has been gaining ground in recent years. The growing involvement of new actors, such as the BRICS group, Indonesia, Mexico, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, has brought increasing attention to new priorities, strategies and methods of development cooperation. Their actions are challenging the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) model of development and the way aid is both conceived and delivered.

Performances of Islamic and Conventional Equities during the Global Health Crisis: Time‐frequency Analysis of BRICS+T Markets

This study investigates the dynamic linkages and spillover effect between emerging economies (BRICS and Turkey), focusing on global crises, notably the COVID-19 pandemic. The study uses daily frequency data covering the period from 2002M5 to 2021M03. For the methodology, the paper employs Wavelet Coherence for multiresolution time-frequency analysis in addition to the frameworks of Diebold-Yilmaz Connectedness Index (DY12) and Barunik-Krehlik Frequency Connectedness Index (BK18).

Economics of Savings-based Finance: An Interest-free Model of Rotating Savings and Credit Association in Turkey

The emerging markets have been witnessing a remarkable revival of rotating savings and credit associations (ROSCAs) serving as alternative informal financing and investment platforms, also known as savings-based finance (SBF) in Turkey. The purpose of this study is to present the SBF model mathematically, analyse the performance of the SBF sector and propose a new Sharīʿah-compliant SBF model for the acquisition of durables.
