Sanduq: A Microfinance Innovation in Jabal Al-Hoos, Syria (Working paper / University of Cologne, Development Research Center)
The establishment of twenty-two “sanadiq†in one of Syria’s poorest neighbors saw extremely positive growth in its first year of existence. The article deals with how these twenty-two organizations were developed and how their programs, many of which were for illiterate women, developed. Future challenges are also delineated, with the conclusion reading that future problems will be rectified through close cooperation between government agencies, donors, and private organizations.
