Dr Alexandre Caeiro is Associate Professor at CIS – HBKU since 2012. He has been in research at various Universities at Germany, France and the Netherlands. He received his Ph.D. in Religious Studies (2011) from Utrecht University, MA (2002) from School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences, Paris, and BA (2001) from Trinity College, Dublin. His research broadly deals with the transformations of Islamic law in modern contexts. He is currently working on the legal history of Gulf sheikhdoms, focusing on the interaction between emirs, shari’a judges, merchants, and British agents in the context of the development of an oil economy and modern state institutions.
Dr Caeiro has contributed chapters to books and articles to journals of international repute and to encyclopedia’s and bibliographies concerning Islam and Muslim’s.
