The promotion of entrepreneurship is one of the key features of Islamic finance as it enables the growth of output and employment in the economy and promotes and preserves wealth thereby contributing to the achievement of general interest. However, entrepreneurship is a complex phenomenon and its financing is one of the underserved areas of Islamic finance with the majority of Islamic finance assets being concentrated in the banking sector and the sukuk market. This research aims to develop a framework of Islamic entrepreneurship from an Islamic perspective and assess the practices using global case studies by gathering information from different Islamic enterprises in light of a conceptual framework. The research can contribute to filling an important gap in the literature in Islamic entrepreneurship. In addition, it can support government, industry and civil society’s capacity building and awareness about best practices and business models in Islamic entrepreneurship.
