          Abstract
              | The term 'Governance' acts as a remedy to a lot of problems and barriers of Awqaf in the Islamic world, especially the problem of corruption that has seeped into a lot of awqaf institutions in the Islamic world and a lot of these cases can be visible in most of the places. The implementation of sound policies and prudent governance methodology, therefore, boosts the credibility of awqaf condition and its actual role in supporting the societies and countries where active waqf movements supporting the progress of Muslims are observed. These activities are what draws the attention of various institutions of the Islamic world to influence or be influenced by others through waqf. It is essential, therefore, for us to make specialized studies to uncover the adequate mechanism and methodologies that can contribute to invigorating the role of waqf in supporting the development of economy and society of respected countries. The paper, thereupon, seeks to discover the features of awqaf system in the Islamic world. After field studies in many of these Islamic countries, where we organized several events, programs and field trips/visits to where the awqaf system is in practice, of which some of the distinguishing characteristics and potentials where the awqaf system is actively working are observed, as well as a number of hindrances that make waqf operations inactive, the study proposes a framework designed on the basis of which effective and productive models of awqaf could be realized in Arab and Islamic communities, by using reform and sound policies and good governance. |
