The Islamic revolution and the eight-year Gulf war have caused severe disruptions and extensive changes to the structure of the Iranian economy. This thesis analyzes Iran's economy during this period. The thesis outlines economic development and industrialization activity under the Shah, providing a framework to evaluate the post-revolutionary economy. The thesis examines the concept of Islamic economics as articulated by the prominent contemporary Shi'i figures with influence over the post-revolutionary economy, focusing on agriculture, industry, foreign and domestic trade, Islamic banking, public finance, the oil sector and the oil war. The revolution and subsequent war have left Iran with a shattered infrastructure and a lagging industrial base. The enormous destruction of wealth has further exacerbated the pre-Revolutionary economic problems.
