Abstract

Since beginning operations 10 years ago, the Kuwait Finance House, the only Islamic bank in Kuwait, has been one of the more profitable Islamic banks. Kuwait has prospered due to high oil revenues during the last several decades, contributing greatly to the wealth of many Kuwaitis. This study examines the principles of Islamic finance in comparison to those of the Western capitalist system. This thesis first explores the financial environment in Kuwait, then reviews the activities and evaluates the success of the Kuwait Finance House. The conclusion outlines the prospects for Islamic banking in general and the Kuwait Finance House, emphasizing the development of the venture capital industry compliant with Islamic law.
