During the 1970's and 1980's, several religious groups like ABIM, Jamaat Tabligh, and Darul Arqam greatly influenced, encouraged, and promoted a wave of Islamic revivalism in Malaysia and other countries around the world. Parti Islam SeMalaysia, founded in 1951, was the largest Islamic political party that wished to further the concept of an Islamic state. This study makes predictions and analyzes the party's advancement in developing a society compliant with Islamic Shari'ah. The author foresaw that PAS's reforms in the Kelantan state, an area that differs greatly from the other Malaysian states, had positive socio-economic results. The work first provides a history of the Kelantan state and the PAS party, and then delves into an analysis of the policies. It uses comprehensive quantitative data, qualitative observation, and personal interviews to highlight the consequences and influence of organizational and institutional conduct in the region.
