This paper discusses the potential role of Waqf in Economic Development, particularly in the developing countries like Pakistan. It also raises awareness of the role of Waqf and attempts to define a new approach to address poverty issues and suggests a fresh approach to socio-economic development. It also claims that Waqf is the most suitable mechanisms for the poverty alleviation programs; additionally the paper highlights the importance of the altruistic sector (the acclaimed third sector after the private and public sectors) in promoting the public welfare and social justice. We applied direct approach and use primary resources for investigation by making empirical study on Alamgir Welfare Trust operating in the Karachi, Pakistan, where poverty is present in all its malicious facets.
