Despite the exceptional growth of Islamic economics and finance (IEF) both as academic discipline and operative field, its paradigm still remains to be fully differentiated from the conventional one. In the attempt to identify this distinctive paradigm, this paper outlines the notion of justice (‘adl) in IslÄm as Truth established at ‘Law’ (ḥukm) and realized through the ‘right’ (ḥaqq), and subsequently interprets IEF rationales as outcomes of the Truth. After a preliminary introduction (Paragraph 1), Islamic justice (‘adl) is firstly contextualized within the Qur’Änic Creator paradigm of SunnÄ« Ash‘arÄ« theology, moving from God’s authority to human responsibility for following the Path (Sharī‘ah) (Paragraph 2). Within this frame, the fundamental interdependence in IslÄm between the notions of ‘Law’ (ḥukm) and ‘right’ (ḥaqq) is disclosed, highlighting how the ‘right’ (ḥaqq) realizes in the creation what is already established by the ‘decree’ (ḥukm) of the only Truth (Paragraph 3).
