Abstract

Provides an overview of the institutional origins of Islamic finance and contextualizes concepts essential to Islamic finance such as riba, gharar, sukuk, and current policies regarding derivatives, securities, and leasing. Critiques the current system, especially focusing on the widespread practice of Shari'a arbitrating, and advocates a reform in practices to increase efficiency in Islamic finance.
