Abstract
In 1980, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan implemented a zakat tax on non-agricultural assets- an unprecedented step in light of its history. This additional revenue was intended to alleviate poverty, especially in the countryside. The paper has three main components: first the data, then the analysis of the data, and finally the potential of such a system in the future. The paper generally has a positive outlook for the future of Pakistan’s zakat system.
