Abstract

It is important to study the development of the social sciences through an Islamic perspective in opposition to that of the West. Issues of values and ethics were never treated as part of economic thought in the Western ideology. Around the 18th century a separation of scientific research and spirituality occurred in the West. In Islam, however, there is no such separation, the principle of tawhid states that it is important to discover God's law in the practical working of the universe. All pursuit of knowledge has a common underlying principle. Because of this, it is important to arrive at a definition of Islamic economics as a political economy based on the principle of Tawhid.
