Abstract

The article addresses Pakistan's move towards an interest-free financial system and the positive consequences for the nation. While Pakistan was founded on the ideology of Islam, it is related, the shari`a has not traditionally been upheld. It is now, under religious-minded leadership, that interest is being eliminated. Because people are so accustomed to dealing with interest, they have some uncertainties regarding the end of riba. The article aims to deal with these uncertainties. A profit and loss sharing scheme will lead to and end of wastefulness. The immoral profiteering that helps sustain the gap between the rich and the poor will go away. The article tries to clear up a misconception that foreign banks are not cooperative in the elimination of interest. Some logistical problems may have made the banks seem unaccomodating, but the intention of the banks is to stay on top. BCCI is particularly mentioned.
