Abstract
Loy Heong, a Chinese Malaysian businessman, has announced plans to offer Islamic banking packages. The leading Islamic bank in Malaysia, Bank Islam, is preparing itself for new competition. Controversy exists regarding the fairness of allowing competition between purely Islamic financial institutions and an institution with both an interest-based system and an Islamic system.
