Abstract

Islam has played a major role in the governance and culture of Pakistan since the country was established. Islamist have long demanded that Pakistan be an Islamic state. Since 1977, Islamists have been have been gaining power; they now have significant influence over the economic, political, and military structure of the country. However, economic and political factors point to an economic decline in Pakistan.
