Abstract
There is growing need amongst the 2 million Muslims living in Britain for a mortgage system that complies with Islamic principles. The two most common methods used for structuring Islamic mortgages are ijara and murabaha financing. The removal of the double stamp duty on Islamic mortgages has increased their availability, though further reform is necessary with respect to the high risk rating of these mortgages.
