Abstract
The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) was created to foster the socioeconomic development of Muslim communities. To achieve this goal, IDB hopes to perform a myriad of functions in accordance with shari`a . Its major activities are loans, equity, line of equity, leasing, line of leasing, profit sharing, technical assistance, and special assistance for social projects. The Islamic Research and Training Institute is an organ of the bank. The bank engages in cooperative ventures with international banks, Arab development funds, national development banks, local Islamic banks, and commercial banks. Though IDB has faced many challenges, it has made significant progress since its inception and promises to play an important role in development.
