Abstract

Zaka has some notable features and can be put into practice. Islam strongly emphasizes the importance of zaka and the prohibition of interest the two laws reflect the brotherhood and goodwill that are hallmarks of an Islamic society. Zakat is unique as a system of social improvement. The literal meanings of the word are 'to flourish' and 'to purify.' Zaka transfers wealth from the upper economic classes to the less fortunate ones. It is also an act of worship for the one who pays it as prayer makes pure one's soul, zaka makes pure one's wealth. The zaka is a pool of funds for the Islamic state it is crucial in public finance. According to the Qur'an, zaka is to be used for: improving the state of the poor; aiding the needy; supporting the administrators of the zaka fund; those whose hearts have recently accepted Islam (although this outlet of zaka was discarded in the time of Abu Bakr); freeing bondsmen; paying off debts; helping wayfarers; and spending in God's way.
