Abstract

Islam and free-market capitalism have notable features of orthodoxy and radicalism. The teachings of the Qur'an and the tenets of Islamic law are often perceived to be in conflict with many free-market practices. Orthodox Islam discourages the pursuit of wealth for its own sake and out and out materialism. Islam stresses the sharing of wealth and fair-dealing labor relations, especially on the part of management. Islam and capitalism have contradictions between them that have ignited a struggle among Muslims. 'Smart' Islamic governments have created alliances with each other in an effort to legitimize and to take advantage of these differences as part of their goal to enrich their countrie's respective economies.
