An international seminar attended by professionals from 17 Islamic countries, the United States, and the United Kingdom, was held in Cairo and dealt with Islam's solutions to the economic challenges of the modern world. Islamic and conventional finance have a crucial difference on the issue of partnership and interest, likewise, Islamic and Western economics are fundamentally different. It is improper to view Islamic banking merely as Western banking without the interest because Islamic banking is actually an independent system, a totally new field. Participants in the seminar and the topics they addressed included Dr. Ahmad El-Naggar (the incompatibility of the two systems), Dr. Abdul Hamid El Ghazali (growth and development), Abdul Moghny Said (morality in economics), Dr. Yousuf Ibraheem Yousef (Islam and alien ideologies), and Mahmud Al-Ansari (the development of Islamic banks).
