Associate Professor of Economics, International Islamic University; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Saiful Azhar Rosly is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at International Islamic University Malaysia, where he teaches Islamic economics as well as Islamic banking, finance, and investment. He holds a B.Sc. and an M.A. in Economics from Northern Illinois University and a Ph.D. in Economics from the National University of Malaysia. Saiful’s ongoing research includes Islamic financial instrument product design (such as Islamic convertible bonds) and analyzing the spending behavior of Muslim consumers and businesses. He is also an Islamic banking consultant to local Malaysian banks. Saiful has written a weekly column on “Business and Islam†for the Sun daily since 1994, and has been published in several refereed journals.
