Lecturer in Law, University of Chicago Law School; Chicago, Illinois Robert R. Bianchi is an international lawyer and political scientist with a special interest in the Islamic world. Bianchi completed his doctorate and law degrees at the University of Chicago. He teaches international and Islamic law at the University of Chicago Law School. He has also taught in the political science departments of the American University in Cairo, The University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Chicago. A former Peace Corps volunteer and Fulbright-Hays Fellow, Bianchi lived in the Middle East for eight years and is fluent in Arabic and Turkish. Bianchi is also a consultant and practicing attorney. As a consultant, he has worked with the World Bank, the Department of State, the Department of Defense, and the Agency for International Development. Bianchi's practice areas include international business, immigration, and human rights law. He is an advisor on Islamic law and legal systems that combine Islamic principles with common law, civil law, and indigenous custom.
