Chairman, Senate of Pakistan, Islamabad, Pakistan Mohammedmian Soomro is the chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, a position he has held since March 2003. Most recently, Soomro also served as the caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan from November 2007. Prior to that he was the governor of Sindh Province. During his tenure as governor, he took a number of steps to bring about financial and administrative discipline, while accelerating the pace of economic development in the province. Merit, transparency, and good governance were the hallmarks of his administration. This was acknowledged by international donors when, under his leadership, the province of Sindh became the first province in Asia to be funded directly by the World Bank. He has held several positions both in Pakistan and abroad in national and international organizations, including the Bank of America. He has also been general manager and chief executive officer of International Bank of Yemen, Faysal Islamic Bank of Bahrain, Muslim Commercial Bank, Agriculture Development Bank of Pakistan, Federal Bank of Cooperatives, and the National Bank of Pakistan. He won wide recognition for his achievements while serving in these organizations, and he was instrumental in the establishment of both microcredit banking and Islamic finance in Pakistan. Soomro earned a B.Sc. with distinction from Forman Christian College in Lahore. He went on to complete his M.Sc. in Physics from Punjab University, followed by an M.Sc. in Operations Management from Northrop University in the United States.
