Research Fellow, University of Durham, Durham, United Kingdom Gaffar Abdalla Ahmed received his Ph.D. from the School of Economics, Finance, and Business at Durham University in 2007. His thesis was entitled, “The Participatory Finance (musharakah) in Sudanese Banking System: Perceptions on Performance, Obstacles, and Prospects.†Currently, Ahmed is serving as a research fellow in Islamic finance at Durham University. He also holds BSc. and MSc. degrees in Banking Studies from the Sudan University for Science and Technology. In addition he holds an LL.B from Cairo University in Khartoum and a postgraduate diploma in shari‘a law from Khartoum University. Ahmed is the author of one book and four articles on Islamic finance, in addition to more than five research papers presented at international conferences on Islamic finance. Ahmed has more than ten years experience in research, teaching, training, and consultancies in Islamic finance and banking.
