Managing Director, Dubai International Financial Exchange, Dubai, United Arab Emirates Armen V. Papazian earned his Ph.D. at the University of Cambridge, specializing in financial economics. He has since supervised and lectured in Cambridge, Beirut, Dubai, and India. Papazian has written in policy and professional journals on monetary policy issues, has been a speaker and consultant to public and private organizations, and is an active researcher in capital markets and Islamic finance. He has addressed many conferences on Islamic finance. He has also spoken at a number of academic and professional conferences on development economics, emerging market finance, and capital market development. He is currently a visiting research associate at the University of Cambridge Business School, a life member of King’s College, and a fellow of the Cambridge Overseas Society. Papazian’s first academic paper was selected as a top finalist in the Clinical Paper in Finance Competition organized by the Journal of Financial Economics, the European Corporate Governance Institute, and the Swedish Center for Business and Policy Studies. This earned him an invitation to the 2004 Nobel Prize ceremony. After an active consulting and academic career, Papazian joined DIFX in June 2007 as senior vice president, running the Department of Innovation and Development. He leads many initiatives aimed at introducing new products and markets on DIFX, whether Islamic or conventional in nature.
