Chairman and CEO, Dawood Islamic Bank, and First Dawood Investment Bank, Karachi, Pakistan Rafique Dawood has been chairman and CEO of the publicly listed First Dawood Investment Bank Limited since the Pakistan-based company’s founding in 1994 as a provider of leasing, investment, and housing financial services. Dawood also serves as chairman and director of Dawood Islamic Bank (the sixth Islamic bank created in Pakistan), Win Power (Pvt.) Limited (a leading Pakistan-based energy company), and B.R.R. Investments (Private) Limited (the manager of B.R.R. Guardian Modaraba, a leading Islamic financial services provider). Prior to that, he held senior management positions in Canada for various Dawood Group businesses since 1977, raising the group’s sales beyond $100 million. Subsequently, he was appointed by the government of Ontario to represent the public interest as director of the Ontario Innovation Corporation and Ontario Development Corporation. Dawood graduated with an MBA degree from Harvard Business School in 1967, and completed his B.Sc. in Honors degree from Manchester University in 1965. He began his career working in family-related businesses in East Pakistan and then in West Pakistan in the paper, insurance, petroleum, and textile sectors. Dawood also holds directorate positions on the boards of GlaxoSmithKline Pakistan and Pioneer Cement Limited.
