Alpay, Savas

(Director-General, Statistical Economic and Social Research Training Centre for Islamic Countries, Ankara, Turkey) Savas Alpay has been the Director-General at the Statistical Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) since 2006. Prior to that he taught at Bilkent University, where he was an Associate Professor. He has a Masters in Economics and received his Ph.D. in Economics in 1993 from the Johns Hopkins University. His dissertation title was “Essays on the Environment and International Trade.” While he was at Johns Hopkins University he worked as Teaching Assistant. He has published several articles in reputable journals and published the book Trade and the Environment: Analysis of Reciprocal Interactions (Kluwer Academic Publishers, 2002). He has spoken at numerous conferences and organized several seminars and workshops. He is an editor of the Journal of Economic Cooperation and Development and an editorial board member of the International Journal of Islamic and Middle Eastern Finance and Management.
