Senior Partner, Amereller Legal Consultants, Berlin/Cairo, Egypt. Dr. Bälz focuses his practice on finance and projects. He has broad experience in advising clients on debt and equity investments in the energy, transportation, telecom and financial sectors across the Middle East (including Iran) and North Africa. He further represents clients in arbitration proceedings. Before joining Amereller as partner in 2010, Dr. Bälz was a partner at Gleiss Lutz and the acting director of the Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, a regional policy platform supporting renewable energies based in Cairo. He published widely on Middle Eastern business law and is a regular speaker at conferences. In 2008, he was a fellow at Harvard Law School. Dr. Bälz published widely on business law across the Middle East, energy policy, finance (including Islamic Finance), public and private international law (in particular the business law aspects of state failure) in scholarly and practitioners’ journals. He is a contributor to the Handbook on Projects and Project Finance edited by Siebel, Röver and Knütel (2nd ed. Carl Heymanns 2008) and to the Commentary on International Litigation and Arbitration edited by Geimer and Schütze (C.H.
