M.B.Abbasi is former Ambassador of Pakistan to Iran and Iraq in 2008/10. He is not a career diplomat, but much credited by his intellectual orientation, though a banker and an economist by education and profession, his appointment to sensitive post was based on understanding on most vital issues of Middle East in reference to Iran. He was also deputed as special Envoy of the President of Pakistan to US, as a team leader for US assistance to Pakistan in 2008. He comes from top School of the World: Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University in 1975/76, Stanford University, California 1988. Besides he served as Chief Economist of Ministry of Planning, Karachi, also earned top financial positions such as: President of National Bank of Pakistan, Chairman, National Development Financial Institution and so on. He is also author of few books, most significant: Capital Markets of Pakistan. Currently, he is writing and participating on Diplomacy of Middle East in reference to Iran, and Pakistan, a new perspective.
